Extreme rainfall demands efficient solutions for handling rainwater and surface water
Climate change is creating extreme weather conditions today with more frequent and intense cloudbursts, which is challenging many local sewer systems. Aalborg Recycling, located at Mineralvej 27 in Aalborg East, experienced this problem during heavy rains. As a result, the public sewer could not keep up, which threatened with flooding and pollution, as rainwater and surface water from the company contained oil from iron and metal scrap. The customer therefore chose a LAR solution (Local Rainwater Drainage) from WaterCare, consisting of a 315 m³ Faskine tunnel modulated up to 8 rows to adapt to the excavation under a new parking area, where trucks with heavy traffic loads drive daily. In addition, an oil separator, the purpose of which is to clean oily rainwater and surface water from the ground before it is discharged into the public sewer system.
WaterCare Faskine Tunnels function as underground chambers for collecting rainwater and surface water, where the rainwater is separated from the city's public sewerage system and led directly to Faskine Tunnels located under the parking area. From here, it is possible to delay large volumes of rainwater and surface water to prevent overflows in the sewer system.
HS Dræn Hjallerup was responsible for the installation, which went smoothly and smoothly. First, a membrane was laid out in the excavation, ensuring a tight bottom. The fascine tunnels were then placed in the excavation by machine, where the modules are quickly assembled by overlapping the ribs and self-tapping screws at each overlap.
Delay is achieved via diversion in the chambers of the Faskine tunnels with different inlet and outlet heights, so that the water is distributed and delayed as needed. This is particularly useful in areas with a common sewer system, where there is no space for both waste water and rainwater at the same time. In the event of large amounts of rain, the water will accumulate in the delay tunnel, so that it is only directed to the sewer when there is space again.
Unique strength with many placement options
WaterCare Faskin Tunnels are constructed from strong PE material in a simple but strong curved geometry designed to withstand heavy traffic loads. This tunnel-like structure combined with extensive strength testing makes the Faskin Tunnels ideal for densely populated areas.
