WaterCare heavy metal separator

Lokation

Virum, Copenhagen

In a cozy residential area in Virum, Copenhagen, a beautiful villa has undergone a complete renovation that, among other things, included new extensions and a beautiful and elegant copper roof. Copper is one of the oldest metals and has a long shelf life, but like most other types of metals, copper roofs contain high concentrations of heavy metals. Rainwater and roof water absorb these heavy metals, which has a damaging effect on our aquatic environment if the water is not cleaned beforehand. The same applies to copper and zinc facades.

In Virum, the discharge of water containing heavy metals must not exceed 0.1 mg/l. Therefore, the private homeowners installed an HMR system for cleaning roof water for up to 250 m2 of roof surface. The innovative HMR system has shown test results of up to 99% reduction of heavy metals and is therefore particularly suitable for the purpose. The HMR system installed in Virum first consists of a 5000 L SFU (Sand trap with leaf trap, delay basin and outlet regulator).

Here, larger particles from the roof, such as leaves, settle and are captured. The roof water then gravitates to the innovative HMR system, which reduces the content of heavy metals via sorption. The water is then so clean that it can be drained directly after treatment. The HMR system is buried in the garden and only the green covers of the system are visible in the coating.
