Rainwater for toilet flushing and laundry
Omøgade is part of the famous island street district in Østerbro in Copenhagen, named after the Danish island Omø, located in the Great Belt. In the summer of 2019, an office complex was converted into rental housing by Fokus Asset Management. As part of this conversion, two basement systems were installed to collect and reuse rainwater in the basement of the property. The rainwater is collected from the roofs and directed down into the basement systems, where it is cleaned and filtered before being pumped up to the individual apartments, where they supply all residents in the property with water for toilet flushing and laundry. The system not only has a positive impact on the green transition, but it also provides an economic benefit for the residents by reducing the costs of water consumption. In addition, the systems also relieve the sewage systems, which are already heavily loaded.
The rainwater systems of 10 m³ respectively and 12 m³ consists of 5 and 6 tanks as well as a filter well and a pump well. The rainwater is first filtered in the filter well, after which it is collected in the tanks. When rainwater is needed, it is transported through pipes to the pump well, which pumps the water up to the apartments.
Omøgade has entered into a service agreement with an external plumbing company, which is responsible for the operation of the rainwater system. A rainwater system must be maintained in accordance with the installation instructions and Pipe Center Instructions 003 from the Danish Technological Institute, and there may be variations depending on the type of system. This ensures a stable and long service life for the system. Below you can see how simple the maintenance of a rainwater system is.
Particulate and carbon filter set
Rainwater is considered to be of the best quality and the best water to use, as it does not contain lime and is free of bacteria, ochre, etc. When collecting rainwater in a rainwater system, e.g. from roof surfaces, the water will always pass a built-in filter with skimmer function in the WaterCare rainwater system. This filter ensures that leaves and other dirt are filtered from the rainwater and do not end up in the rainwater system. However, in rare cases, discoloration and odor may occur in the clean rainwater, but this can be easily removed using a WaterCare Particle and carbon filter set. The particle & carbon filter set is placed on the pump outlet, which is the last link. The rainwater system requires minimal maintenance and only changes to filter cartridges 1-2 times a year.
