Møns Strandcamping, located in a scenic area close to the sea, was faced with a challenge with wastewater management. The campsite is outside the public sewer system and therefore needed an independent and environmentally friendly solution that could ensure proper handling of the wastewater. After a thorough assessment of the site's needs and environmental requirements, the owners chose to establish a sedimentation tank with reed strings – an effective solution for wastewater treatment.
Due to the location of the campsite, the installation of the system required special approval from the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, as the seepage lines were to be installed in a protected area. This permission was granted after documentation that the solution would minimize environmental impact and protect the vulnerable ecosystem around the campsite.
The solution consists of a settling tank that effectively separates solids from the wastewater, followed by seepage strings that direct the filtered water into the ground, where it is naturally purified through the soil layers. This method ensures wastewater treatment with minimal environmental impact, while reducing the risk of contamination of the surrounding terrain and groundwater.
