Efficient management of rainwater and surface water

The Schaub slaughterhouse in Esbjerg was in operation until the 1990s. Now the large plot of over 20,000 m² is being transformed into a new residential area with a number of other public facilities. Bolig Sydvest, a housing company that specializes in creating sustainable and modern homes and public areas, has completed the project, which includes 122 apartments, where both families and seniors have the opportunity to create a home in the middle of Esbjerg. Materials from the old slaughterhouse have been used in the common areas, which has meant that many former employees from the slaughterhouse have chosen to rent one of the apartments.

One-to-one comparison
The project to create a new residential area began with stage 1, where it was necessary to manage and infiltration of rainwater and surface water on the site. For this purpose, traditional rainwater cassettes were used, and a total of 742 cassettes were installed. The work of assembling the cassettes down in the hole required 4 men for four days. Due to rainy weather, the project was delayed compared to the schedule, which led to the decision to test WaterCare's Faskine tunnels in stage 2 of the construction process.

The contractor couldn't hold back his excitement
However, in stage 2, it was decided to use Faskine tunnels for infiltration in the project. The reason for this was a delay in the construction project due to large amounts of rain in late 2021 and early 2022. 272 m3 of Faskine tunnels were delivered, corresponding to 54 Faskine tunnel modules. With the Faskine tunnels, it was now possible for two people to install them all in one day's work. The contractor company Ib Kristensen has carried out the excavation of the Faskine tunnels with great satisfaction. Compared to ordinary rainwater cassettes,...

- THREE WHOLE WORKING DAYS SAVED!

By changing the approach to handling rainwater and surface water, we achieved a more efficient process and significant time savings.

“As a result, we can now conclude that the lost time has been made up,” says the contractor on the project.

The consultant who takes time in one of the videos: - 42 seconds, then 6.7 m3 has been added

WaterCare visited the construction site to discuss the progress of the project. During the visit, a time test was carried out, where it only took a few minutes to place a Faskine tunnel with great precision. According to the consultant on the project, who recorded the video of the test, there are few products that can compete with this. It was a LinkedIn ad that inspired the testing of the Faskine tunnels, and now several cubic meters of soil have been dug away. The future looks bright, and the consultant concludes by saying:

“I don’t think this customer will go back to cassettes when it comes to larger systems.” The results are simply too good, and one of the employees adds: “I also know what I would prefer to work with.”
