The Schaub slaughterhouse in Esbjerg was in operation until the 1990s. Now the large plot of over 20,000 m² is being transformed into a new residential area with a number of other public facilities. Bolig Sydvest, a housing company that specializes in creating sustainable and modern homes and public areas, has completed the project, which includes 122 apartments, where both families and seniors have the opportunity to create a home in the middle of Esbjerg. Recycled materials from the old slaughterhouse have been used in the common areas, which has meant that many former employees from the slaughterhouse have chosen to rent one of the apartments.

The project to create a new residential area began with a stage 1, where it was necessary to handle and infiltration of rainwater and surface water on the site. For this purpose, traditional rainwater cassettes were used, and a total of 742 cassettes were installed. The work of assembling the cassettes down in the hole required 4 men for four days. Due to rainy weather, the project was delayed compared to the schedule, which led to the decision to test WaterCare's Faskine tunnels in stage 2 of the construction process.
